To add VAT, multiply the net price by the VAT rate to find the tax, then add that tax to the net amount. At 20%, a net price of 100 has VAT of 20 and a gross price of 120.
To remove VAT from a gross price, do not simply subtract the VAT percentage. Divide the VAT-inclusive amount by one plus the VAT rate. For a 20% rate, 120 divided by 1.20 returns a net value of 100.
This reverse calculation matters because VAT is normally expressed as a percentage of the net value, not as the same percentage of the final gross price.

Multiply the net amount by one plus the VAT rate expressed as a decimal. For example, 100 at 20% VAT becomes 120 gross.
Divide the VAT-inclusive price by one plus the VAT rate. At 20%, divide the gross price by 1.20 to recover the net value.
Because the 20% VAT rate is calculated from the net price. In a 120 gross price at 20% VAT, the VAT is 20, which is 16.67% of the gross total.

Yes. The calculator keeps the per-item net, VAT, and gross values and multiplies all three by the selected quantity.
Accounting systems can apply different rounding methods at line-item, tax-component, or invoice level. Exemptions and taxable-base rules can also affect totals.
